The Facts

• George Perry Floyd Jr., known as "Big Floyd" to his family and peers, was murdered on May 25, 2020 by white police officer Derek Chauvin.

• George Floyd was the father of five and grandfather of two. He supported his family by working as a truck driver and security guard.

• A total of four police officers were directly involved with George Floyd's murder. Their names are Derek Chauvin, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao.

• George Floyd was detained on accusation of using counterfeit currency at a grocery store in Minneapolis. 

• Restrained by handcuffs, George Floyd fell to the curbside at the intersection of 38th St. and Chicago Ave.

• Derek Chauvin used this opportunity to lock George Floyd's neck in place with a knee, suffocating him for eight straight minutes. This maneuver is strictly against department code, and classified as excessive force.

• Onlooking bystanders pleaded the officer to relieve the suffocating pressure on George Floyd's neck, but could not intervene due to the three other police officers standing guard. 

• Just minutes before death, George Floyd himself cried out, "I can't breathe."

• The official autopsy ruled homicide.
